Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly, including your email address, account details, display name, username, profile photo, bio, language preferences, country, posts, comments, messages, reactions, reports, saved words, imported reading content, and support requests.
If you use optional features, we may collect photos, voice messages, transcripts, map location, city search information, reading progress, dictionary lookups, translations, grammar requests, AI chat content, and notification tokens.
We also collect technical information needed to run the app, such as device type, app version, session identifiers, diagnostics, crash or build information, local cache data, and product interaction data.
How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Provide reading, dictionary, translation, study, chat, feed, wall, and partner-discovery features.
- Personalize your language-learning experience.
- Show your profile, posts, comments, and messages to the people or communities you choose.
- Send notifications about messages and app activity.
- Improve app performance, safety, reliability, and moderation.
- Prevent spam, abuse, fraud, and policy violations.
- Respond to support, deletion, and data requests.
- Comply with legal obligations.
Sharing With Other Users
Some information is shared with other Bricks users depending on how you use the app. This may include your profile, profile photo, username, bio, language interests, posts, comments, likes, wall activity, follow relationships, and messages you send.
If you enable map discovery, your selected or current location may be used to help other users discover nearby language partners. You can choose not to use this feature.
Third-Party Services
Bricks uses service providers to operate the app, including:
- Supabase for authentication, database, storage, realtime features, and backend functions.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging for push notifications.
- Google Maps and geocoding for map and place search features.
- Google Gemini for dictionary, translation, grammar, embeddings, and AI-assisted language features.
- OpenAI for legacy or optional AI chat and voice transcription features, if enabled.
- Cloudflare Images for image upload, processing, and delivery.
- Apple and Google app stores for app distribution and related operational telemetry.
These providers process information as needed to provide their services to Bricks.
AI, Translation, And Transcription Features
When you use dictionary, translation, grammar, voice transcription, or AI chat features, the text or audio you submit may be sent to AI providers such as Google Gemini or OpenAI to generate responses, translations, corrections, or transcripts.
Do not submit sensitive personal information into AI features unless you are comfortable with it being processed for that purpose. Bricks does not place provider API keys in the mobile app bundle.
Photos, Audio, And Location
Bricks may ask for permission to access your microphone, speech recognition, photos, notifications, and location.
We use these permissions only for app features you choose to use, such as voice messages, transcription, profile photos, chat media, nearby partner discovery, and message notifications. You can change permissions in your device settings.
Cookies And Local Storage
Bricks may store information on your device, including your session, preferences, reading cache, dictionary cache, and local app settings. This helps keep you signed in and makes the app faster.
Local data may remain on your device until you sign out, clear app data, delete the app, or the app removes cached data.
Data Retention
We keep account information, profile information, messages, posts, reading progress, saved words, and related app data for as long as needed, unless you delete it or delete your account in the app.
Some shared dictionary, community, safety, or moderation records may be retained after account deletion where permitted by law. Push notification tokens are removed when replaced, no longer valid, or when your account is deleted.
Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your Bricks account from **Profile settings** (open your profile, tap **Edit**, then the settings icon). Tap **Delete account**, confirm that you want to proceed, and type the confirmation word shown on screen. This removes your account and associated app data linked to your account (profile, messages, library, saved words, and similar personal records), subject to the retention notes below. You will be signed out when deletion completes.
Some information may be retained where we are required or permitted to keep it for legal, safety, fraud-prevention, or moderation reasons.
Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, export, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information.
You may also have the right to withdraw consent for optional features such as location, notifications, microphone, or photo access through your device settings.

Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. However, no app, network, or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your information may be processed and stored in countries other than where you live. These countries may have different data protection laws. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers.
